Day 73
We had a 23 mile day today with two wayside stops. The first one was 5 miles in for breakfast at the Skyland Resort. I grabbed a muffin and a cookie for later. It was a pretty fancy resort, so we all felt out of place walking around.
Once the views ended on the trail I started to walk on the road for the remaining 8 miles. Skyline Drive was gorgeous today and had great views of the mountains.
At 22 miles we stopped at the Elkwallow wayside for dinner. We were all lounging around laughing outside and somebody offered to buy us another round of drinks. Turns out he hiked the trail in 1999 and wanted to pay it forward with some trail magic. He lives in the area and gave us his number in case anything comes up and we need help.
We had one mile left to the campsite at mile 951. It ended up being next to a cabin available to rent but nobody was there so we camped anyways. There were plenty of no camping signs but we took the risk anyways since it was already 6:30pm. ***Thanks to Ben Baker for the breakfast treats and Hot Dogs!***
It was a beautiful day today and our last full day in the park. Tomorrow we have 18 miles into town where we are spending the night in another Super 8!
Happy Trails 🌲
