Day 119

Image
We had to say goodbye to Papi today for a while. He's hiking ahead for a bit for his upcoming trip. He'll be off trail for 10 days so we're slowing down and he's speeding up that way we can still finish together.  Leaving the Hostel, we had 16 miles to a river to camp next to tonight. Vermont definitely feels like New England. The climbs are steep again compared to everything else we've hiked so far.  Trail was very muddy and wet today. There's a lot of wooden planks or logs to walk on most of the time though.  First time being just me Hiccup and Tama at camp, we definitely miss Owen. Happy Trails 🌲

Day 118

Had a quick detour around Stratton Mtn this morning to give us more time out of the rain, and into town.  The pond we walked by was gorgeous, but the trails were a river today. Easier to walk straight through the mud and water as opposed to rock hopping around.  After 10 miles, we got to the road where our shuttle was picking us up for 1:30pm. We went to the Hostel first to shower/laundry/and dry off our tents.  It's our first Hostel stay since Harper Ferry and this place has incredible reviews. They drove us back to town for Mcdonalds, an outfitter, then a stop at the Price Chopper for resupply.  I would absolutely stay here again, and could see myself making a stop here next time I'm hiking the Long Trail! The AT heads east after Killington, so there's still 100+ miles of the Long Trail to be completed another time!  Happy Trails 🌲

Day 117

We had 19 miles to hike to the spot where my Mom and Devan were meeting us for trail magic. We left pretty early so we could get there for 3:00pm. There's camping at the road so we won't be hiking any further. Very thankful my mom made the trek to Southern Vermont.   Saw a lot of moose poop today? We were hoping to see a moose but nothing yet.  I finally got a new backpack! My old one was on its way out. My mom also picked me up new shorts, body glide, socks, trash bag, everything!  We will head into town tomorrow and stay in a Hostel. Very exciting since we haven't been at a Hostel in over 500 miles. It's all be hotels since Harper's Ferry!  Happy Trails 🌲

Day 116

We officially entered Vermont and started The Long Trail! Only three states left!  We saw lots of hikers today that were starting The Long Trail. It's weird being surrounded by so many other hikers since we almost never see AT thru-hikers anymore.  It was a great day for hiking, Vermont has been gorgeous so far. We pass multiple ponds and beaver dams everyday. We also got to meet Peppermint, who was set up with trail magic. Her husband and son are hiking the trail and she's been meeting them at road crossings and doing trail magic. We had one final climb to the shelter for the night. First full day in VT was a success  Happy Trails 🌲

Day 115

We had an early 8:00am shuttle out of town this morning. Which was good because it meant we couldn't dillydaddle.  We got dropped off at a campground with water and a porta pottie. We then started our ascent of Greylock. The highpoint of Massachusetts. The forest looked a lot like NH hiking.  Nick's hometown friend Jeffrey is meeting us for trail magic on top of Greylock. Fruit and beers for all of us. He is actually leaving to hike the Continental Divide Trail in a week. It was cool to see them before leaving and catch up.  On top of Greylock, we also met back up with Old School. He's hiking around us again and said his camp nights were boring and quiet without us.  On the way down, we finally saw the wooden steps that Papi created. He's been talking up these steps for over 1600 miles and they lived up to the hype.  Tomorrow we will hit 1600 miles and als...

Day 114

We grabbed breakfast at Cumberland farms, then hiked 10 miles to where we had a shuttle pickup.  We're spending the night in a motel to resupply and shower since it's supposed to rain all day today. We didn't want to try and summit Greylock and hike in the rain.  We did laundry, went to Applebees, had all you could eat appetizers, then fell asleep watching Lord of the rings.  Happy Trails 🌲
