Day 50
Woke up to a wet tent this morning so we all slept in till the rain stopped around 7:00am. It was a nice rain last night though, very calming and not windy. The temperature dropped to low 40s so it was pretty cold this morning. Foggy to start but opened up later.
We had a 2000ft climb to start the day up to Chestnut Knob Shelter. Very foggy at the views, windy and cold and the wet grass made our feet wet the rest of the day.
It was very windy up top, but the sun did start to peak out. The rest of the day was pretty uneventful for views, it was a long ridgeline that was pretty boring to look at. It did turn out to be a pretty nice day, sunny around 50 degrees. I met a 79 year old man hiking the trail named Tinker. He's already hiked the AT before along with the PCT and CDT. He told me when he finishes, he'd be the 5th oldest person to thru-hike the trail. He'll turn 80 in August
Stopped for lunch at this parking lot. Hiccup and Tama stayed for a while. We still had 9 miles to go to camp.
The rest of the day went by pretty quick, we walked along an old logging road for a while. I listened to some Ted Rundgren. Had never heard of him before, but somebody named Tootie, at the Hostel, told me I should try it out. I didn't get to camp today till 5:00pm tonight which is later than normal. We hiked 19.7 miles today, to get to mile 585.
We're stopping by an outpost tomorrow for a very small resupply just to top off our food bags. Before we get to Pearisburg.
Happy Trails 🌲
