Day 43

Slow start to the day today. The Hostel we are at closes on Sunday for church so we had to be out of our bunks by 9:30. We stopped by the diner first for breakfast, then the outfitter again for final gear purchases before heading to resupply.

Afyer we resupplied at Food City, we prepped our bags outside the Hostel around noon. We were all exhausted from the day prior so most of us took a nap before heading out onto trail. We had 8 miles to hike today to our campsite. We're aiming for 4 full days of hiking before another Hostel stay in Marion. 
I left around 1:00pm but I grabbed a Coke and an ice cream snickers at the gas station on my way out of town. ***Thanks for the Coca-Cola Kevin***
Due to damage from Helene, part of the trail is under construction so we are taking a reroute. 
The reroute is around 20+ miles and we will get back on the AT right before Grayson Highlands where the ponies are. Some people are paying for a shuttle to be dropped off to avoid some of the reroute but we were all too cheap to pay that much for a shuttle. It's actual trails, not just road walking.
Me Patches, Hiccup, Tama and Papi got to camp, ate our sandwiches, and went into our tents early for bedtime.

Day 1 got off to a less than ideal start. Big snorer in the shelter last night. Got started around 8:00 with a quick intro about leave no trace at the visitor center. Registered and got our hiker tags, we're numbers 526 and 528.  Started the 8.8 mile trek up the approach trail. Which leads from the Gateway Arch to Springer Mountain. Some people opt to drive up and bypass the approach trail which is a highly discussed point between thruhikers. I personally think you should hike it. What's the difference adding 9 miles to an already 2000+ mile trek. Day 4

Made quick time taking down camp this morning. Neither of us had much for breakfast left. I only had 7 granola bars, the butt end of a baguette, and a little pepperoni left. Ate half of that, and flew towards Blood Mountain. Which is the equivalent to one of the smaller Belknap Range Mountains. Packs were as light as could be with no food in them. Shelter at the top Unfortunately I'm now 0/2 for views on a blood Mountain as both times I've been up it's been incredibly foggy. By the time we made it to the bottom the sun came out and we both had no food in our package.
