Day 21

3 weeks on trail! Also its officially 3 years since I started in 2023
Weather is a lot nicer this time for the first half of the Smokys. Actually got some pretty good views this morning. We spent the night at Spence Field Shelter and are hiking 13.7 miles to Double Spring Gap Shelter. 
The sun decided to come out again today, got up to around 70 degrees, and drank over 5 Liters of water today. Eating up all our snacks and food today since we're headed to Gatlinburg tomorrow. 
We all stopped for lunch around 11:00 to grab more water at Derrick Knob Shelter. Little flowers are starting to bud around the trail. Spring is hopefully coming soon
New resupply food is mini donuts, averaging two packages of these a day, one for breakfast, and one for a late afternoon snack
Full shelter tonight, luckily no day hikers came and kicked us out. Most everybody is getting up early to try and catch a sunrise or get into town tomorrow. 10 miles to Newfound Gap where we will thumb it out to get to town. 
Ate my beef filling with some more Knors Rice Side, hoping to find more of it at the next resupply

Day 1 got off to a less than ideal start. Big snorer in the shelter last night. Got started around 8:00 with a quick intro about leave no trace at the visitor center. Registered and got our hiker tags, we're numbers 526 and 528.  Started the 8.8 mile trek up the approach trail. Which leads from the Gateway Arch to Springer Mountain. Some people opt to drive up and bypass the approach trail which is a highly discussed point between thruhikers. I personally think you should hike it. What's the difference adding 9 miles to an already 2000+ mile trek. Day 4

Made quick time taking down camp this morning. Neither of us had much for breakfast left. I only had 7 granola bars, the butt end of a baguette, and a little pepperoni left. Ate half of that, and flew towards Blood Mountain. Which is the equivalent to one of the smaller Belknap Range Mountains. Packs were as light as could be with no food in them. Shelter at the top Unfortunately I'm now 0/2 for views on a blood Mountain as both times I've been up it's been incredibly foggy. By the time we made it to the bottom the sun came out and we both had no food in our package.
