Day 2
Got up around 6:30 this morning, packed up our tents and ate a quick hot breakfast. I had a few granola bars and a packet of ramen. Hit the trail right after 8:00am for a nice warm up of 4ish flat miles along Stover Creek. Eventually got to second waterfall of the hike, Long Creek Falls.
Continued to walk for a few more miles till I took a quick bathroom break at the Hawk Mountain Shelter to shed some pounds. This is what the privies look like. This was a composting privy, so only poop, pee and toilet paper allowed.
Realizing we only had 4 miles left on our day, and it was barely noon, we took a long siesta/lunch at Hightower gap.
There were 9 of us that stayed the night here, but Nick and I were the 3rd and 4th here so we got some of the flatter spots.
11.6 miles today with a little under 3000ft of elevation gain. Looks like we will be hiking another 12 tomorrow to Jarrad Gap, followed by a 6 mile trek up and down Blood Mountain to get to our first resupply at Neels Gap.
Happy Trails
